Description
The Black Swan is a public house located on Westgate in Guisborough. It dates from the early 19th century, but features a core that is much older, as indicated by the partially exposed full-cruck construction inside the entrance lobby. The exterior is rough rendered and painted, topped with a mid-20th century concrete tiled roof and stone gable coping. The building has two storeys and two bays, with a central doorway that has a timber pilaster-and-entablature surround, a four-panelled door, and a rectangular fanlight. There are two-storey canted late 19th century bay windows with sashes. The listing also includes a late 19th century extension at the rear, which faces Northgate, and is similarly rendered and painted with two storeys and sash windows. Other extensions and outbuildings to the north are not of interest.
