Description

The war memorial, located in the middle of Eston High Street, dates from around 1920. It features a granite pedestal with a tapered rock-faced design, sandstone steps, a painted stone figure, and steel railings. The figure represents an infantryman standing at ease, holding a rifle reversed against a tree stump. There are two deep steps leading up to the pedestal, which has the names of those who fell in the 1914-18 war inscribed on a panel on each face. The memorial is surrounded by spike-and-loop-topped railings, with a gate on the east side.
