Description
Numbers 47 and 49 are a pair of cottages dating from the early to mid-19th century, originally misidentified on Ordnance Survey maps as numbers 4 and 6. They are constructed of dressed sandstone, with a renewed clay pantile roof featuring a stone ridge, gable copings, and a block kneeler at the right-hand end. A rebuilt and rendered stack is located at the right end. The cottages are single-storied, with two windows and a central doorway for each. Mid-20th century doors lead up two and four steps respectively. Mid-20th century casement windows are set within the original openings. End and ridge stacks are present. Retaining walls run along the street frontage, featuring chamfered copings topped with painted timber picket fences, extending eastwards to the boundary of number 49. They are included on the list for their group value.
