Description
Nos. 84 and 86 on High Street in Eston are a pair of cottages. No. 86, on the left, dates from around 1800, while No. 84 was built in the early to mid-19th century. No. 86 is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble, and No. 84 features dressed sandstone. Both cottages have a clay pantile roof that is sprocketed at the eaves, with stone ridge and gable copings. There is a moulded kneeler at the right end, and the end stacks have been rebuilt in brick.
The cottages are two storeys high and have two windows. No. 86 has been refenestrated on the ground floor. They share paired central doorways that have late 20th-century panelled doors. The windows are mostly late 20th-century casements, except for a renewed tripartite sash window on the first floor of No. 84. There are also two late 20th-century buttresses on the left return, and a late 20th-century lean-to rear extension, which is not of special interest. The cottages are included for their group value.
