Description
The Round House, located 30 metres west of Humshaugh Church of England Primary School, is a playground shelter with a dovecote, likely built around 1833. It is constructed of rubble with tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building has a semi-octagonal plan and features an open front supported by two monolithic stop-chamfered piers that carry timber lintels. Inside, there is a cross wall with a boarded door in a chamfered surround and a blocked opening just below the roof level. The pyramidal roof is capped with square stone and includes small pigeon holes on each side, along with a chamfered cornice. There is a similar door on the right return.
