Description
Humshaugh Church of England Primary School is a school built around 1833, which incorporates some earlier materials and has been enlarged and extended in the 20th century. The original part of the building is made of roughly-squared stone with tooled and margined dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It is a single-storey structure with three wide and irregular bays. The center bay, which is the original school, features three- and two-light mullioned and transomed windows. The left side has roughly-shaped quoins, while the right side has cut quoins. Each of the flanking bays contains a half-glazed door set in a chamfered triangular-headed surround, likely re-set from the original building. Above these doors are lintels inscribed with Scripture texts dated 1833 and 1836. The left bay has 20th-century casements, which are set in a chamfered surround of what was once a three-light mullioned window. The roof features two ridge stacks that are banded and have paired diagonally-set shafts with heavy cornices. There are two-storey end bays and additional 20th-century extensions at the rear, which are not of particular interest.
