Description
The George Inn is a hotel that dates from the mid-18th century and was extended in the 19th century. It is constructed of roughly-squared stone with dressings, while the 19th-century parts are made of snecked stone, topped with a Welsh slate roof.
The southeast elevation features two storeys plus attics and consists of one bay on the far left and four bays overall. The main section has a boarded door on the far left and a 20th-century porch in the second bay, with a 4-pane sash window between. On the first floor, there are 12-pane sash windows, and on the second floor, a 4-pane sash is set in a 19th-century half dormer, along with a small casement window in an old stone surround. The third bay has a projecting wing that includes a Venetian window with small-pane sashes on the first floor, situated above a 20th-century window, and features a hipped roof. The inner return of the wing has three bays with 12-pane sashes. The right end bay contains a 20th-century window, while the lower 19th-century bay to the left has a ground-floor 4-pane sash and a Victorian wall letterbox. The building has coped gables with moulded kneelers, stepped and corniced end stacks, and a flanking stack on the right return of the wing. The left return displays 4-pane sashes and a lancet light in the gable.
There are extensive 19th and 20th-century additions to the right that are not of interest.
