Description
Westfield and Eastfield are a pair of houses dating from the mid-19th century, built on the site of earlier fabric. The houses are constructed of rubble with a tooled ashlar front and ashlar dressings, and have a Lakeland slate roof. They are two storeys high, with an irregular three-bay facade. The central bay has two 20th-century doors and a 12-pane sash window above. The end bays have similar windows with doors close to the end walls; all doors are 20th-century and glazed, with older three-pane overlights remaining. A boldly projecting moulded eaves cornice runs along the top of the facade. The gables have copings. Stepped and corniced end and ridge stacks feature broad panelled shafts. The left-hand return shows earlier rubble masonry, while the right-hand return displays a central 12-pane attic sash window set under a chamfered pointed arch. Later wings to the rear are not of architectural interest. The houses are included in the listing for their group value.
