Description

The Round House, including railings, is a house located at the end of Brunswick Terrace in Weymouth, built in 1823 by Morris Clarke and George Cox. The building is rendered with a slate roof and was originally two houses. It features a three-storey structure with an attic and basement, showcasing four flat-roofed, four-pane sash dormers on a curved mansard roof. The facade includes canted plain sash oriels that alternate with blind lights, arranged in a pattern of two, three, one, three, and two storeys.

At either end of the facade, there are two-storey units above a glazed door with deep reveals and four stone steps to the west, and an original panelled, part-glazed door on eight steps to the east. The one-storey bay faces down the Esplanade, situated under a blind light, and above two blocked arched doorways that lead to basement doorways below. The three-storey oriels are positioned above two-light casements, with steps leading to the basement area. The building features a plat band at each floor, a slight moulded cornice, blocking, and parapet coping, along with two large square brick stacks, each topped with eight clay pots.

The area surrounding the one-storey bay is enclosed by original spearhead railings, which include gates leading to the steps. This house marks the southern end of Brunswick Terrace and holds a significant position facing down the Esplanade, complementing the more grand Statue House at the southern end of the seafront.
