25/32 Beaumont House, Allenheads

GV II

House, earlier C19. Squared stone, cut quoins and dressings, slate roof, ashlar corniced stacks. Rectangular block with shorter parallel range to rear, later additions at either end of rear range. Garden front (south) 2 storeys, 3+1 windows. Central door to 3-window section has raised ashlar surround and plain cornice; all windows sashes. Rear range has round-headed stair window. Interior retains some original doors, fireplaces etc. Re-used C17 six-panelled door in cottage at E. end of main block. Said to have been built for Lord Allendale's land agent who formerly lived in Crag House,displaced by Allenheads Hall in 1845, although stylistically perhaps a little earlier in date.
