Description

Beaumont House in Allenheads is an early 19th-century house constructed from squared stone with cut quoins and dressings, topped with a slate roof and featuring ashlar corniced stacks. The building has a rectangular shape with a shorter parallel range at the rear and later additions at both ends of this rear range. The garden front, facing south, has two storeys and features a total of four windows, with a central door leading to a three-window section that has a raised ashlar surround and a plain cornice. All the windows are sash style. The rear range includes a round-headed stair window. Inside, the house retains some original doors and fireplaces, including a reused 17th-century six-panelled door located in the cottage at the eastern end of the main block. It is believed that Beaumont House was built for Lord Allendale's land agent, who previously resided in Crag House before being displaced by Allenheads Hall in 1845, although the architectural style may suggest it was constructed slightly earlier.
