Description
The Beaumont Mine Fawside Level portal is an adit entrance to a lead mine, dating from the mid-19th century. It features a narrow horseshoe-arched design with a dressed stone surround set into a wall of squared rubble. There is later concrete infill at the top of the arch and an iron gate securing the entrance. Above the portal, there is a sunk rectangular panel with a hollow-chamfered surround that is plain. Although work on this level began in 1776, the design of the portal resembles that of the Blackett Level, which was constructed in 1855, suggesting that the entrance was likely reconstructed in the mid-19th century.
