Description

Allenheads Farmhouse and adjacent farm buildings date from the early 19th century and consist of a house along with planned farm structures including byres, cart sheds, and stables with haylofts above. The buildings are constructed from squared rubble with stone dressings and feature hipped slate roofs. They enclose three sides of a square yard that is open to the east.

The farmhouse is located in the eastern part of the north range and is two storeys high with three bays. The first bay has a boarded door and a renewed window to the left, while the second and third bays contain 16-pane sash windows in moulded boxes on both floors, along with two stone ridge stacks. To the left, there is one bay of the farm building that includes three doorways and a pitching door above. The right return features a boarded door with an overlight and a 16-pane sash window in a moulded box to the left, with a similar window above; there is also a small outshut at the rear of the house.

At the rear of the yard, the west range is two storeys and has four bays, while the south range is also two storeys and has five bays. These ranges include elliptical-arched cart entrances, boarded doors, and pitching doors leading to the haylofts. The left return of the south range has a 16-pane sash window in a moulded box on the first floor. The rear elevations of the farm buildings have fewer openings, featuring slit vents for the haylofts.

The yard is paved with stone setts and has an infilled central pond bordered by large paving slabs, which was used for washing the mine ponies that were stabled here. A rubble wall with arched coping and central stone piers supports a 20th-century metal gate that leads towards the road.
