Description
47-49 Townhead in Irvine is an early to earlier 19th century house that likely incorporates some earlier materials. It is a two-storey, three-bay rectangular building with an ashlar front and rubble stone on the sides and rear. The house features a painted base course, a ground floor cill course, an eaves band, a cornice, and a blocking course, along with painted quoins and tails.
On the north elevation, there are short double flight steps leading to a central entrance doorpiece, which has a consoled cornice and rectangular fanlights. The windows on either side have plain margins, while the first-floor windows are smaller and have ashlar cills.
The west elevation is a gable end with a window on the first floor to the left. The east elevation is attached to No 45 and has a passageway at ground level.
The house features four-pane timber sash windows and a grey slate roof with skews to the west. There is a later brick-built gablehead stack on the west side. The interior was not seen in 1996.
