Description
33 Townhead in Irvine is a single-storey terrace of houses dating from the early to earlier 19th century. The buildings are constructed of rubble stone, harled, rendered, and painted.
Nos. 27-31 have been converted into a single house but were originally three separate dwellings. The north elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a central door, a window-door-window arrangement to the right, and a door-window to the left. The openings are plain, and the walls are harled and painted. There is a rounded pier to the right in the re-entrant angle with No. 31. The east elevation has a blind gable end with a rubble stone extension to the left. The buildings have a variety of modern glazing, grey slate roofs, skews, and a gablehead stack to the east, along with a later brick stack to the west that shares the gable with No. 31.
No. 33 is mid-terrace with three bays. The north elevation features a central door in a pilastered and painted surround that is slightly off to the left. There are windows flanking the door, which have ashlar cills, and an attic with piended dormers above. The walls are painted, and the glazing is modern. The grey slate roof has skews and gablehead stacks on both the left and right sides.
No. 35 is also mid-terrace and symmetrical with three bays. The north elevation has a central door in a plain round surround, with windows flanking it that also have ashlar cills. The windows are timber sash and case. The grey slate roof is pitched lower than that of No. 33, and there is a stack to the left that is shared with No. 33. The interior of Nos. 33 and 35 was not seen in 1996.
