Description

The War Memorial on High Street in Irvine was built in 1920 and is designed in the style of a market cross. It features an octagonal base with bronze panels on each side that list the names of those who died in the wars. The panel facing High Street notes the funding from subscriptions. Above the base, there is an octagonal plinth that references a former market cross, supporting a columnar shaft topped with a heraldic lion sitting on a crown, with a shield below. Behind the memorial is a three-part screen wall that steps up in the center, displaying panels dedicated to those who lost their lives in the Second World War.
