Description

The Old Post Office is a former post office that has been converted into a private house. It is likely from the 18th century, with mid to late 19th-century alterations that include the front garden wall, gate piers, and garage. The house features pebble-dashed masonry, a renewed pantiled roof, and brick chimney stacks. The front and rear walls are made of rubble, with the gate piers constructed from ashlar. The garage has coursed rubble walls and a renewed pantiled roof.

The house is two storeys high and has two windows, with openings that were altered in the mid-19th century. The central door has four faceted panels and a two-pane overlight, set in a moulded surround beneath a hoodmould. The windows are four-pane sashes, which have had their intermediate glazing bars removed, and feature projecting sills and scalloped wedge lintels. The roof is steeply pitched with slightly swept eaves, coped gables, and shaped kneelers, and there are chimney stacks at both ends.

On the left side, there is a boarded door and a fixed 24-pane shop window. The short two-storey rear wing has replaced double doors, a fixed six-pane light, and a boarded opening on the first floor. A tall L-shaped rear wall connects the wing to the small garage, which has replaced double doors and a low-pitched roof. The low front garden wall has raking return sections leading to the house. The central pair of gate piers features enriched pyramidal caps, with similar piers at each end.
