Description
The Grange and the attached farmbuilding to the south is a large farmhouse and farmbuilding dating from the 17th century, possibly incorporating earlier masonry, with significant alterations. The early 19th-century farmbuilding features rubble that has been painted white. The farmhouse has replaced pantiles and brick chimney stacks, while the farmbuilding retains old pantiles. The farmhouse is designed in a reversed U-plan with an added bay and a farmbuilding to the left. It is a two-storey, irregular five-bay structure, with a six-panel door located in the fourth bay. The openings have been altered, featuring 20th-century casements, a glazed porch, and a replaced sash on the ground floor, along with replaced four-pane sashes above that have wedge lintels and projecting sills. There is a fire insurance mark on the first floor between the right end bays. The roof is steeply pitched with coped gables and shaped kneelers. A massive off-centre ridge stack has a rebuilt brick top, and there are rebuilt brick end stacks. A stepped external chimney is located on the right return. The lower two-storey added left bay has a replaced door and an end stack. The single-storey farmbuilding with a loft features two boarded doors on the right and an external stone stairway on the left return. At the rear of the house, there is a single-storey outshut flanked by two-storey gabled wings. The interior has been modernised, with a 1.75-metre thick full-height cross wall below the ridge stack, and the ground-floor rooms retain some chamfered ceiling beams.
