Description
The Old Post Office is a former shop and post office that has been converted into a detached house. It dates from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of random and coursed rubble limestone, featuring brick rebuilt chimneys and roofs made of stone and artificial stone slate. It is two stories tall with an attic and has an L-shaped plan.
The front of the building has a three-window arrangement, with 12-pane sash windows on the ground floor and 9-pane sash windows above. The right-hand sashes are 20th-century replacements for the original shopfront. There is an off-centre doorway that features an open porch hood with an pediment supported by shaped brackets, leading to a four-panel door. Two chimneys are mounted on the ridgeline, and the roof is hipped at the southeast corner. The rear of the building has a mix of window styles, including some iron casements. There are also early to mid-19th century outbuildings associated with the property. The interior has not been inspected.
