Description

Close Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 18th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century. It is constructed of roughcast brick and has a French-tiled roof. The building is two storeys high and features three widely spaced bays. To the right of the centre, there is a six-panel door with an overlight that has patterned glazing, all under a distyle wooden porch. The doorway is flanked by blocked openings and 12-pane sash windows with projecting stone sills. The eaves were raised in the 19th century. The roof is low-pitched with coped gables and shaped kneelers, and there are stacks at the ridge and right end.

On the left bay, there is a mid-19th century two-storey, gable-fronted wing that is set at right angles to the main building. This wing has replaced 16-pane sashes and a low-pitched roof. There are also altered byre and wash-house structures on the left return, along with 20th-century rear additions, which are not considered of special interest.
