Description

Great Burdon Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of painted roughcast brick and features a ridged concrete tile roof at the front and Welsh slates at the rear, along with roughcast brick chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and has seven bays. The entrance is off-centre and consists of a six-panel door with an overlight that has margined glazing, all set within a wooden doorcase featuring fluted pilasters. The windows are replaced sashes with projecting stone sills, including paired eight-pane sashes in the left end bay and twelve-pane sashes elsewhere. The steeply-pitched roof has coped gables and shaped kneelers, with chimney stacks on the left end and two on the ridgeline. To the right rear of the house, there is a two-storey parallel range that includes a stepped external chimney on the gabled return and a square wall sundial on the first floor. The 20th-century rear additions are not considered to be of special interest.
