Description
Burdon House is a house that likely has a core dating from the mid-18th century, which has been encased in early 19th-century work. The gable end of the original house is visible on the right side and is made of narrow hand-made brick. The front of the house has been refaced in header-bond brickwork, while the returns and rear are constructed in English garden wall bond, with a pattern of 5+1. The roof is covered with French tiles, and there are rendered brick chimney stacks.
The house is two storeys high and has three bays. The central entrance features a 5-panel door set within an architrave that has a swept base, along with a patterned frieze and cornice. The windows are boxed sashes, placed under rubbed-brick flat arches with projecting keystones and stone sills. There is an 8-pane sash window above the door and paired 8-pane sashes in the end bays. The eaves have a decorative band, and the roof has stone-coped gables with shaped kneelers and end stacks. To the left, there is a single-storey lean-to addition that has a replaced 6-panel door at the front and two 12-pane horizontal-sliding sashes on the return. At the rear, there is a large 12-pane round-arched stair window.
Inside, the entrance hall retains what is likely an 18th-century cornice, while the rest of the interior has been refitted in the early 19th century, featuring 6-panel doors and a dogleg staircase with stick balusters.
