Description
Birchensale is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the late 18th century with mid-19th century alterations and additions. It is constructed of brick and has a tiled roof. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, featuring a dentilled eaves cornice. It is three bays wide, with window openings that have flat heads. The windows have been replaced with ones that have boldly detailed mullions and transoms; the outer bays contain 3-light windows on both floors, while the central first floor has a cross-casement window. The central entrance features a 19th-century gabled porch with pierced scalloped bargeboards and a moulded finial, along with a pointed archway and loopholes in the side elevations. A half-glazed door is located within the porch. The gable ends have attic lights. Inside, some large main ceiling beams are exposed, and there is a large fireplace in the rear left. The original wing at the rear left encloses a large chimney, and there are also 19th-century additions at the rear.
