Description
Kerwood and Company is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building is constructed of brick and has a stuccoed front, featuring partly-hipped plain tiled roofs and stacks at the left and rear ends. It stands two storeys high and has a moulded plinth, eaves cornice, and sill bands.
The façade consists of five plus one bays, with rusticated quoins at the ends of the five-bay section. The windows have moulded architraves and keyblocks, but all have been replaced in the 20th century with plate glass. The ground floor features an opening upper light, while the first floor has 2-light windows with transom lights. The main entrance is centrally located in the five-bay part and has a 19th-century pilastered surround with a moulded flat canopy. The door consists of six raised and fielded panels with plain transom lights.
The additional bay on the right end appears to be from the mid-19th century and matches the detailing of the rest of the building, except it lacks sill bands and end quoins. This building is one of the oldest surviving structures in the town centre.
