Description

This milestone, likely from the 18th century, is made of cut sandstone and is painted black on a white background. It features a pillar with a roughly-domed top. The east side displays the legend 'Bowes 2 MILES', with the figure '2' incised, while the west side reads 'Durham 27 MILES', both painted. The milestone stands 0.55 metres tall and is not indicated on the Ordnance Survey map.
