Description

Lartington Aqueduct is a Grade II listed structure built in 1858, designed by Thomas Bouch for the North Eastern Railway Company. The aqueduct is constructed from cast iron and rock-faced stone, featuring ashlar dressings. It has stone abutments with a moulded ashlar band and parapets topped with ashlar coping. The central bridge section includes a U-shaped cast iron trough that carries the stream over a disused railway line. This aqueduct is a rare example of its kind made from cast iron.
