Description

The Grove is a house dating to circa 1840, and possibly incorporating fabric from an earlier 18th century building. It is constructed of squared sandstone rubble; the main block has a graduated green slate roof, while a section to the left has Welsh slate. Stone chimney stacks are present.

The house is two storeys and a basement, with a symmetrical five-bay facade. Features include raised quoins, a low plinth, and sill bands. A four-step approach leads to a central, 20th-century gabled porch with a replaced glazed door. Small basement windows are blocked on the left side and have iron bars on the right. Four-pane sashes, some with intermediate glazing bars removed, and some replacements, are set in projecting surrounds. The building has coved eaves and a low-pitched, slightly-swept hipped roof. Stepped and corniced lateral stacks are evident.

A two-storey section to the left return, possibly part of an earlier house, has altered openings and a monopitch roof. The rear of the main block displays a scatter of 12-pane sashes.

Inside, a dogleg staircase with two flights and a landing rail features knopped turned balusters and a ramped handrail.
