Description

Tower House is a former village schoolroom and master's house, dating from the mid-19th century. It is likely to incorporate an earlier structure. The building is constructed of squared sandstone rubble, with stone-flagged roofs and stone chimney stacks.

To the left is a one-storey, four-bay former schoolroom. A replacement door has been inserted to the left, and there are two pointed-arched windows with hoodmoulds and replaced casements in bays two and three. A partly-blocked former doorway, also with a square hoodmould and inserted window, is located to the right. The roof has a coped left gable with shaped kneelers, and a rendered ridge stack.

The two-storey, three-bay master's house is situated to the right and features a taller clock tower on its return. The main block displays alternating quoins and a first-floor band. A replacement door is on the left, and altered openings contain replaced casements. The roof has coped gables and shaped kneelers, and the left end has a truncated stack. The square clock tower has a band at eaves level, a leaded gabled roof with overhanging eaves, a small stack to the left, and a square louvred lantern with a pyramidal roof and a weather vane. On the return of the tower, there is a 12-pane sash window within a projecting surround, two round windows with radial glazing and a large circular clock face above the band, and pierced, wavy bargeboards to the verge of the roof.

Tower House is a prominent feature within the village.
