Description
The gate piers, end piers, gate, and linking walls at the entrance to Lartington Squash Club date from the mid-19th century and are possibly the work of J.A. Hansom, who was active at Lartington Hall around 1867. Constructed of sandstone ashlar, the structure features a cast-iron gate and railings.
The tall banded gate and end piers are designed with alternating blocks of ashlar and vermiculated rustication, with the top blocks highlighted by projecting bands. The end piers are topped with low pyramidal caps, while the gate piers have crowning cornices and matching caps. The low serpentine linking walls are finished with chamfered coping stones and include short railings adorned with stylised fleur-de-lys heads. The single-leaf gate showcases heavy scrollwork and ramped end sections that are topped with urn finials.
