Description
West North Field Farmhouse is a house dated 1779, featuring the initials C J on the front door lintel. It is constructed from squared stone with cut dressings and has a graduated stone slate roof. The main part of the house is two storeys high and has three symmetrical bays. The central entrance has an old four-panel door with decorative lower panels and glazed upper panels, set in a chamfered stone surround. There are four-pane sash windows in stone surrounds, and the gables are coped with moulded kneelers, complemented by end stacks. To the left, there is a near-contemporary outshut that includes a two-panel door with a two-pane overlight and a similar kneeler. The rear elevation features similar windows.
Inside, the farmhouse has two-panel doors and a straight staircase with stick balusters, with the lower newel possibly being a reused feature from the 17th century. The kitchen includes a fireplace with a corbelled-out lintel and a 19th-century range, along with fireside cupboards in both the kitchen and parlour that have panelled doors and axe-head hinges. An old pump and stone trough are located in the west outshut.
