Description
This milestone, located approximately 800 metres north of Church Bridge in Staindrop, is likely from the late 18th century. It is made of ashlar and has a square-section block that stands about 0.5 metres high, topped with a domed pyramid. The milestone is set diagonally to the road and features the inscriptions "Bowes 11" on the north face and "Durham 18" on the south face. The rear faces are marked with large Roman capitals "B" and "D".
