Description
This is a milestone located 35 metres west of Milestone House, which is shown on the Ordnance Survey map as New House. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of sandstone that has been painted white. The milestone stands 1.0 metre tall and has a square plan with a rounded top. On the west face, it features the inscription "DURHAM 28 MILES" in black, sans-serif letters, while the east face has an illegible inscription related to Bowes.
