Description
The Grove is a large house built in the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. It is constructed from squared rubble with ashlar dressings and features a stone-flagged roof along with stone chimney stacks. The house has a double-depth plan and includes a two-storey, two-bay wing attached to the rear of the right side.
The building stands three storeys tall and has five bays, with raised-and-chamfered quoins. The central entrance features a partly-glazed door set within a pedimented doorcase that is flanked by rusticated pilasters. On either side of the entrance are late 19th-century stone canted bay windows with two-pane sashes. The first floor has two-pane sashes, while the upper floor features four-pane sashes, all within moulded surrounds. The roof is a two-span design with coped gables and shaped kneelers, and the end stacks are adorned with top bands, water tables, and ornamental chimney pots.
Inside, there is a cut-string dogleg staircase consisting of four flights plus a landing rail, featuring two turned balusters per tread and a ramped and moulded handrail.
