Description

This milestone, located 600 metres north-east of High Barford Farmhouse, dates from the 19th century and is made of sandstone, which has been painted white. It has a single square plan and stands about 0.75 metres high with a rounded top. The north-east face features incised sans-serif letters painted black that read "BOWES 8," while the north-west face shows "DURHAM 21." The south-east and south-west faces each have the number "8." The top of the milestone is marked with "O.S.B.M."
