Description
Gilmonby Bridge is a road bridge that crosses the River Greta. It was likely built in the early 18th century, with 19th-century abutments. The roadway was widened and the parapet was rebuilt in the late 20th century. The bridge is constructed from dressed and squared sandstone.
It features a wide depressed-pointed arch made up of two orders with set-back voussoirs. There are flanking abutments on the west face and a battered buttress at the south end of the east face. The parapet has chamfered coping stones and is supported by transverse concrete beams. The square-plan end piers exhibit chamfered rustication and pyramidal caps.
This bridge is located across the parishes of Bowes and Gilmonby.
