Description
Nos. 53 and 55 Monnow Street are three-storey buildings with a rendered brick front and a Welsh slate roof, featuring a slated west gable and a red brick stack. The buildings have a double depth plan, with two windows on each, although the windows of No. 53 are set wider apart due to a throughway to the right, which gives No. 53 additional width. The ground floor of No. 53 has a late 20th century shopfront styled like those from the 19th century, with an entrance to the left and access to the rear premises on the right, flanked by panelled pilasters and three-light display windows. No. 55 has a plain mid 20th century shopfront. Above, both buildings feature sash windows, all with six over six panes and stone cills. The eaves are timber on brackets, and the roof has a low pitch with a central stack. The rear elevation has not been seen, and the interior was not seen at the resurvey.
