Description
Nos. 53 and 55 Monnow Street are three-storey buildings with a rendered brick front, a Welsh slate roof, a slated west gable, and a red brick chimney stack. They have a double depth plan and feature two windows each, although the windows of No. 53 are set wider apart due to a throughway on the right that provides additional width to that house. The ground floor of No. 53 has a late 20th century shopfront designed in a 19th century style, with an entry on the left and access to the rear premises on the right, featuring panelled pilasters and three-light display windows. No. 55 has a plain mid-20th century shopfront. Above, both buildings have sash windows, all with six over six panes and stone cills. The eaves are timber on brackets, and the roof has a low pitch with a central chimney stack. The rear elevation has not been seen, and the interior was not inspected during the resurvey.
