Description
67 Monnow Street is a three-storey building with a double depth plan, constructed with rough rendered and painted walls and a Welsh slate roof. The entrance is located on the right side. The façade features two windows, with the ground floor window on the left set in a semi-circular arched shallow recess, consisting of a 6 over 6 pane sash. The timber doorcase has a broken pediment supported by fluted Doric columns, with panelled reveals and a 6-panel recessed door, the upper four panels of which are glazed, along with a fanlight above. A later door leading to a passageway for No. 65 is situated to the right of the doorcase, featuring a plain plank door. The upper windows include 6 over 6 pane sashes on the first floor and smaller 3 over 6 pane sashes on the second floor. The building is topped with a modillion eaves cornice, and the roof is hipped to the front, with a tall stack on the left wall.
At the rear, there is a large single-storey extension that covers the back wall of the house and occupies much of the garden space.
Inside, the property retains a charming and surprisingly little altered interior, showcasing much early 19th-century joinery and plasterwork, including shutters and 6-panelled doors with reeded architraves featuring lion's mask paterae. The central top-lit stair is a principal feature, complete with stick balusters and a continuous mahogany handrail. The top floor has four-panel doors.
