Description
The aqueduct over the Afon Lwyd on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal is a Grade II listed structure. It is built from squared coursed stone, featuring dressed voussoirs and pilaster bands. This tall single arch aqueduct has a very solid appearance, with a semi-circular arch framed by narrow pilaster strips and a decorative band at the crown. It has deep curved wing walls, and the parapet rests on another band. The aqueduct is an attractive structure, displaying the same design on both sides, although the downstream side is particularly interesting due to the masonry weir located below. This aqueduct also crosses into the Pontymoile Community Area.
