Description
The Tramroad and leat tunnels on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal are a pair of tunnels featuring dressed semi-circular arches with a 1-meter thick pier between them. The tunnels have coursed squared stone revetment on the embankment on either side and above the arches, with the same treatment applied to both faces. The smaller eastern tunnel was designed for a watercourse, while the larger western tunnel was intended for a tramway. It is unclear whether these tunnels were built before the canal. Inside, the tunnels are lined and paved with stone, with a headroom of about 2 meters at the center of the arch.
