Description
Nos 1-3 Vicar's Cottages on Maesderwen Road are three almshouses designed as a symmetrical terrace in a minimal Tudor Revival style. They are constructed from golden/brown squared coursed limestone and feature an artificial slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high and present a four-window front to the road, arranged in a 1:2:1 pattern, with the single outer bays set forward as gabled wings, creating the appearance of a 17th-century hall-and-crosswings house. The windows are small paned cross-framed casements, with three lights below and two above, each topped with dripmoulds. There is a central gabled porch with steps leading to the front door. The roofs are plain, with two four-flued stacks that have octagonal shafts and clay pots. The central portion of the front is No. 2, while Nos. 1 and 3 have two bay fronts with gables and their own gabled porches, oriented southward, facing the main front. The rear elevation was not seen, and the interiors were not inspected during the resurvey in November 1996.
