Description

Mount Cottage is a cottage that dates back to an unspecified period, featuring a whitewashed rendered front that likely covers stone rubble. The roof is made of stone tiles arranged in diminishing courses. The building has two bays and is one and a half storeys high, with a gable on the right side, a projecting gabled stair, and a catslide roof extension at the rear. A later two-storey extension has been added to the left, with the remains of a left gable stack visible within the adjoining roofslope. The front features later horned plate glass sash windows in altered openings, casement dormers on the first floor, and various small windows and rooflights at the rear. The front elevation includes a door to the left and two windows to the right, along with a further small window to the right. There is an additional door to the later extension located in a covered passage to the left.

Originally, the cottage had a two-bay plan that was extended on the ground floor with the later addition on the left. The former left bay now serves as an entrance hall but contains what is likely the remains of a large gable stack, which has been converted into a cupboard connected to the kitchen in the later wing. On the southwest side, a stair, now blocked, rises to the first floor of the later wing. To the right of the entrance hall is a single room featuring a large gable fireplace with a recess to the right and a stair to the left. A single floor joist is visible within this room. The first floor is accessed by a single turn gable stair and is divided into two rooms; the main room has two bays with a visible truss, and there is a further partition and truss leading to a smaller room beyond. There may have been a former door through the gable within the smaller room that connected to the first floor of the later wing.
