Description

Blaen Canaid Farmhouse is a two-storey farmhouse built from rubble stone, featuring a close-eaved slate roof and rebuilt stone end stacks. The building has a three-window range that is slightly offset to the left. It includes four-pane sash windows, which are smaller and nearly square on the upper floor, and a central door that has cambered heads, stone voussoirs, and stone sills. The central window was added in 1993 when the front wall was taken down and rebuilt, and all the glazing and the door have been replaced. There is a datestone above the door, dating to 1840, which may have been reused.

At the rear, there is an outshut that has a window on each side of the door and a window on each floor in the end wall of the outshut, all featuring stone voussoirs and similar four-pane sashes. To the right of the farmhouse, at a lower level, is a former cowshed range that was in poor condition as of 2003 and is partly roofless. This range has two doors with stone voussoirs on the left, a broad central entrance that has been enlarged with a concrete lintel and walling above, and another door with stone voussoirs on the right, which has been raised in the 20th century.

The interior was altered in 1993, with the wood staircase by the east end fireplace removed. Some reused stop-chamfered beams can be found in the east room, while chamfered beams are present in the west room. The roof timbers have been renewed. The left end of the cowshed originally had a central feed passage with five massive beams, three of which have been cut off, and one beam leading to a low broad opening at the rear.
