Description

Twyn Farmhouse is a two-storey farmhouse built from rubble stone, featuring a slate single roof and brick stacks on the ridge and at the left end. The long range of the building is irregularly fenestrated, with all windows replaced in the 20th century and fitted with concrete sills. To the left of the ridge stack, there is a two-window range, with timber lintels and rough hoodmoulds, all of which have been renewed. The first floor has a larger window on the left and a smaller one on the right, situated above a door in a 20th-century stone porch. The ground floor left window is positioned further left than the one above it.

The right section of the farmhouse also features roughly two windows, with two upper windows under the eaves aligned over a ground floor triple casement that has a timber lintel and hoodmould, as well as a pair of casements with a red brick head. There is a door with a red brick head at the extreme right. Attached to the right end wall is a lower outbuilding with a stone-tiled roof and one door to the front. The left end wall is rendered, while the rear is also rendered and includes a lean-to on the left. Above this lean-to are three pairs of casement windows, a triple casement, a tiny square window, and another pair of casements opposite the front door.

Inside, there is an entry to a cross-passage behind the fireplace. The upper end features a two-room plan with an entry to the east of the fireplace and winding solid oak stairs to the west. There is one beam across the space and another beam over the rear window. A massive curved lintel has a niche cut into it, and there is a partition to the second room with a beam above. The upper room has a door leading into the outbuilding and one beam. Large chamfered beams with stepped hollow moulded stops and diagonal stops to the joists are present, along with some oak panelling. Notably, there is a Tudor-arched oak doorway on the first floor. The lower end room has a large end fireplace and one plain beam.
