Description

The base of the chimney at Cwm Pit is constructed from exceptionally large rock-faced stone squared blocks. It rises to a heavy raised band and then steps back in three tiers of similar blocks, leading to the site of a demolished shaft. Each side features a large arched stoking hole; three of these are lined with yellow brick, although it is possible that all were originally made of masonry, as one stoking hole remains with cut stone voussoirs and no yellow brick.
