Description
The Barn Range at Aberfan Fawr Farmhouse is a 19th-century structure that includes a barn and a lofted byre. It is built from rubble stone and features a single roof, with corrugated iron on the north side and slate on the south. The barn on the left has full-height double doors with a timber lintel positioned under the eaves. The byre on the right has continuous stonework and includes four small square loft windows. There is a ground floor door to the left, which has a pine lintel, and an older door beneath the second loft window that has a lower head and an oak lintel; this door is now a window. Another oak lintel, which appears to have originally been for a door, is set very low between the third and fourth upper windows, and this is also now a window at ground level. The west gable end features a loft door with 19th-century bricks on the right jamb and a dripstone above. The rear south side has an outshut under a continuous roof behind the byre. The east end of the barn has a long slit opening in the gable.
The interior was not inspected, but in 1997 it was reported to have an altered three-bay cowhouse at the upper end and a three-bay barn below, with rough roof trusses that have lapped and pegged collars.
