Description
This is a range of farm buildings located north of Manor Farmhouse, dating from the mid-18th century and altered in the 20th century. The structure is made of coursed gritstone rubble with a stone slate roof. It features a two-storey, three-bay byre with a hay loft above on the left side, and an eleven-bay barn on the right. The building has quoins and the byre includes central and end doors with heavy stone surrounds and tri-stone jambs. There are stone steps leading to a loft entrance to the right of the center, as well as blocked small square openings with stone lintels under the eaves on both sides. Originally built as cow byres with a central feeding passage and hay loft above, or as stables with a granary/hay loft, the barn has a small blocked cart entrance on the left and a large cart entrance to the right of the center, which has a timber lintel below a cambered arch made of voussoirs. There is also a lean-to calf house on the right, six slit vents high up, a lower row of which is blocked, and an inserted hay door under the eaves at the center. Inside the barn, there is a blocked low cart arch opposite the current entrance, and it features ten sawn and pegged king post trusses with punched carpenter's marks in Roman numerals.
