Description
The range of farm buildings to the east of Cobble Hall, formerly known as Braim Farm, dates from the early 19th century. Constructed from coursed squared gritstone featuring herringbone tooling, the buildings have stone slate roofs, although most have been replaced with corrugated asbestos. They form three sides of a southwest-facing farmyard, with a wall and gateway enclosing the fourth side.
The north side consists of two storeys and seven bays, featuring a central large segmental-arch entrance with quoined jambs. Above this entrance is a dovecote with a pedimented gable and turned-back kneelers, along with a pointed-arch opening that contains pigeon holes. The flanking ranges include byres and stables with hay lofts above, which have three square upper openings with plain stone surrounds. There is also an inserted cart entrance on the ground floor to the left, with a doorway and square window to the right.
The west range, which faces the yard, is of one and two storeys. The right end contains a cart shed and stable/byre with a granary above, featuring a doorway to stone stairs on the right, three additional doorways, and three segmental-arched cart arches, with four square openings above and a hipped roof.
A single-storey range has three groups of three segmental arches with quoined jambs and voussoirs, most of which are now blocked, likely originally serving as open shelter sheds for animals during winter. On the east side of the yard stands a tall barn with a central flat-arched doorway and quoined jambs, along with two tiers of tall slit-vents to the left and a square opening under the eaves to the right.
The south side features a wall approximately 1.5 meters high with rounded coping, which has been incorporated into later yard buildings and curves to meet the gateway on the right. The west facade, which faces the rear of Cobble Hall, has a two-storey range with a central door featuring a large lintel, a blocked original door and window to the left, and a first-floor loading door along with a blocked original cart entrance to the right. The lower range includes an original cart entrance with voussoirs and large jambs, along with three ventilated windows. The interior has not been inspected.
