Description
Cobble Hall is a farmhouse located on Elmet Lane in Roundhay, likely dating from the mid-18th century but remodeled or rebuilt in the early 19th century. The building features walls faced in small cobbles and rubble, with stone quoins and surrounds for windows and doors, as well as a battlemented parapet. It is two storeys high and has three bays, with the central entrance bay projecting. There is a lower two-storey service wing at the rear. The design is in the Gothick style, characterized by pointed arches on the entrance porch, which is now glazed, and on the windows that have interlaced (Y-tracery) glazing bars. At the rear, there is an arched stair window above an inserted doorway, and the rear wing includes a six-panel door in a plain stone surround, along with side-sliding sash windows. The right return of the building has windows on both the ground and first floors, featuring pointed arches similar to the front. The interior has not been inspected. Formerly known as Braim Farm, the house was likely remodeled to serve as an eye-catcher across the Great Heads Beck from the 'Castle' in Roundhay Park.
