Description
No. 125 on Main Street is a small house that has been converted into a fish and chip shop. It dates back to 1637 and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high with two bays and features a chamfered plinth.
The original entrance, located to the right of centre, has moulded jambs and a massive lintel with a shallow Tudor arch. The lintel includes a carved panel with raised lettering that reads 'IB:AB/ 1637:'. To the right of the entrance is a former mullioned window, which now has a 6-pane frame due to the removal of the mullion. The longer window to the left was originally a 5-light window but has also had its mullions removed, with a shop doorway and small-pane window inserted in its place. All ground floor openings are topped with a stepped syma hoodmould.
On the first floor, there is a small window to the left with a side-sliding sash, and a longer window to the right with three frames and a central casement. The end stacks are positioned forward of the ridge, with the right stack projecting from the gable wall and featuring a stepped design. The interior has not been inspected.
