Description
Shadwell Branch Library, originally a chapel, dates from the early 19th century and was altered in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone featuring herringbone tooling and has a stone hipped roof. The building is two stories tall with three bays, plus a single-storey entrance bay on the left that has a slate roof. The entrance is framed by a moulded architrave. The main block has one blind window and two 4 x 8-pane sash windows on the ground floor, while the upper floor features three 8 x 8-pane sash windows. All windows have slightly cambered arches with voussoirs and plain sills, and there is a band at floor level. The interior has not been inspected.
